I was wanting to know if the cold weather will hurt a hide in the pickle. with the high oil prices i dont keep my shop heated all the time ,only when i work out there. But i do have some hides in a pickle and was wanting to know if the low temp. will hurt anything.

But it will take longer to pickle. Be aware also that your salt content will be lower as it will fall out of solution. pH is also somewhat temperature dependant but it won't fluctuate enough to be a problem.

You may want to consider a heater for the pickle. Someone here once suggested a waterbed heater that goes under the pickle vat. Good idea.

keep your salt a little higher, your acid a little stonger, stir more often, you'll be fine!
