is this the best or not

just came from a taxidermy place shop a few hours from home. was given the grand tour. but what i want to know is this. he showed me a stack of furs that came back from the tanners. they were so soft. just like a bathroom towel if you will.they were dry not frozen. is this the best kind of tan there is. better than say wet tan

....On what the final purpose is! If they are for hanging or to be made into rugs, probably. If they are to be mounted than they will be rehydrated and mounted. But sometimes rehydrating doesn't bring them back to the same workability as a wet tan. Wet tanned hides are left in the wet state and not dried like the ones you saw, they are kept frozen until mounted.
