Should I tan the velvet prior to boiling the skull? Will I encounter problems with boiling either before or after tanning the velvet? Thanks.

If you boil the skull, don't you think you'll boil the velvet off as well? You have to cut the antlers off and treat them separately. Then boil your skull. When it's cleaned, dried and bleached, reattach your velvet antlers.
Geroge - I saw an old post in the archives after posting my question. I cut them off today, skull boiled and velvet tan in process.
