slipping with lutan f

Submitted by bb on 1/18/06 at 8:43 PM. ( ) 207.218.218.85

I have done about 25 shoulder mounts and have been using lutan f and for some unforseen reason my last four have been slipping (hair) around the eyes on top of the head and on top of the nose the spots handled the most when putting the skin on the form and thats with being careful. I have been following the directions to a T, I cape flesh right away turn everything and salt real good even pickle and tan inside where the Temp is not a problem. Any Ideas what could be going wrong or should I switch to a diferent product?

It may not be you at all. If your doing all the steps correctly and not over neturlizing then it's not yor fault but the way the cape was handled before it came in.

that is what I was thinking but

on two of the capes I was present when shot and the minute they hit the ground I my self caped and froze right away and then when I got home I thawed right away on a very cold day and fleshed and turned every thing and salted quickly and did the rest as supposed to. Still the last two it happened again.

if you were present when it wa shot
somethings not right
im guessing but are you using any kind of disenfectent or cleaning products in your work area
are you using and bacteriacide
you might be getting a chemical slip
try incorporating stop rot into your routine
i believe Glen said it will bind most chemicals
maybe Glen will add somemore to your possible problem
i know stop rot will definately not hurt only help
in whatever your doing right or wrong

What I do...

I've never had slippage problems in the location you described, but I did have slippage problems when I first started using lutan-
f. Actually it had nothing to do with Lutan-F, but I was having my hide wet for too long in a damp basement. Now I tumble the next morning after oiling and get most of the moisture out of the hair. I also spin the capes in a washer (On spin cycle) prior to oiling, and towel dry the hair. I no longer have a slippage problem when mounting. Just one more idea to think about...

thanks

i have used lutan f for years i have had all the problems
you are having if the hide has been taken care of corect
you might try not neturlizing the hide just go straight into
the tan after the tan wash verry good in cold water then oil
and tumble when you resoak your hide use water with a strong
mixture of lysol this will help stop bacteria
