Without being a GOOD shaver, your pissing in the wind! There are Tannerys out there, everywhere, that havent grown a lick, because their shavers suck! If you are an exceptional shaver, go for it!
Where do you go to learn to shave?
Stand at the machine for a few hundred hours, no joking! I have been at it for a couple of years part time and I'm still not worth a damn at it. I do a good job but I am SLOW! This could be because I'm an OLD Fart! LOL!
I went to the north Idaho School of tanning and am doing just fine. These guy will show you how to shave Im not real fast. but I use to use carolina fur for my tanning and my shaving is better than thiers. so dont let anyone tell you you its a waste of time I would do it again.

But you're BETTER than Carolina Fur Dressers. Well, considering that I've been to Carolina and a shaver is expected to have at least one cape done completely about every 10 minutes, I don't suppose you're nearly as good as you think you are. I've been shaving my own hides for 20 years and I'm still no good at it and it takes me 30 minutes to do one. You can't be TAUGHT how to shave. You can be SHOWN how to shave, but if you don't have a feel for that wheel and hone that blade just right, you've screwed the pooch. I'm especially dumb about them. I'll stand there doing several and wonder why my back's killing me. Then the light goes on that the edge of the wheel needs to be honed and it would be a whole lot easier. Shaving is to tanning what tanning is to taxidermy. They are 3 separate and distinct functions that really have no relationship to each other except working toward the final product.
What class did you go to in Idaho....10day? 30 or 60?
