Ok i pickled the skin for 3 days now should i shave the hide or just leave it? Also for alum tanning i got my alum at a health food store. "Golden Harvest" $1.03 lb is that the right alum or will they just dry rot?

...you're trying to make BUCKSKIN with an alum tan? Well, I'm sure what I say won't convince you of what a terrible choice you're making so I'll let some of these guys who love that crap tell you.

"Golden Harvest" alum

will make good cucumbers or dill pickles. Bruce Rittel has a Leather Makeing Kit for dehairing and tanning of the deer hide. $25 and it will better than using your imagination for tanning. Now, wasn't I nice?

Well thats no help

I all ready used alum to tan 2 other hides but i am afraid it was the wrong kind. Why dont you like to use alum? I read that alum is one of the oldest ways to tan and it works so im not just using my imagination to do it. just was looking for some advice.
