I'm looking to tan two deer hides i have into buckskins. I'm wonding which methods work well for producing buckskins... my literature suggests a "Chrome Alum" tannage, but I have had difficulty finding the required chrome alum. Secondly, I'm wondering how i should color them... I am aiming to have them end up as black... I know i can dye the tanned hide, but would it be better/ more perminant if i some how dyed it during the tannage?
