I'm always reading to rehydrate "as long as it takes" in a salt brine (1 gallon water to 1 pound of salt), but how long is too long?
Usually, I let my salted capes dry for about 2-3 days. On about the second day, they're hard but still flexible. Then I rehydrate, and it usually takes about 4 hours. Is this the safest way?

A Salt Brine is pretty safe! You can safely soak up to 24 hours - or if a thick skin - up to 48 hours. Unless the skin or cape was mis-handled it should usually be safe. I prefer mixing mine - 2 Lbs. of Salt to each 1 Gallon of Water. Adding a Bacteriacide is optional.
Bruce,
What bacteriacide do you prefer?
