I am about to try Krowtan 2000 for the first time and I'm wondering if you need to wash a deer cape to remove the excess dirt and blood before you put it in the Krowtan 2000 mixture?

I usually do, just because I don't want my cape sitting in dirty, bloody water while it's tanning. One suggestion is make sure you flesh it good. Krowtann is great stuff and you should get a nice white stretchy skin when done. Follow the directions and you won't be dissappointed.

i NEVER wash anything and sitting in bloody water has no affect that i have ever seen - i neutralize and then wash in sudsy water and rinse in fabric softener
I believe the instructions tell you to wash off any dirt or blood before putting in the Krowtann solution. I would follow the instructions.
