Mixing Oxalic acid and Saftey acid

can it be done? I checked my pickle this morning and the ph was up to 2.5. I am out of Saftey acid but more is on the way but maybe 3 days out. I do have some oxalic, (not enough for a new batch of pickle) can I add a little to lower the ph or is it safe to leave the ph high for a couple of days?

I had problem same as you once. I did add powered OXALIC. I have also use plain vinegar to lower Ph when inventory runs low on me.

You probably better not. Here's an excerpt from this article written by Glen Conley: http://www.hidetanning.net/HairSlipTanning.html

"...BUT the heat produced by the chemical reactions as a result of incompatibilities was enough to burn some of the hair in two. The fix was simple enough, use only one supplier's line."

Ouch.

I've done it but.....

John, I've mixed Van Dykes pickling crystals with Safety acid because I didn't have enough Safety acid.It worked fine but I agree with Kristi, call Bruce Rittel.
