need affordable soft tan

I have a bunch of hides that need to be soft tanned. There are some bobcats some otters and a couple fox and coyotes. They are for some conservation officers to use as training and public awarenes at shooting sports classes in 4-H and also hunter ed classes for kids. I am donating my time and getting them to a tannery. They are paying out of there own pockets for the tanning.(our state said no money available) I would like recomendations to a good tannery that will be reasonable priced. Thanks for any help or referances.

Joe, that's not entirely true

Get with your state Hunter Safety Coordinator. There are grants from the National Shooting Sports Foundation and many others that provide funding for just this type of projects. Your local Buckmasters, National Wild Turkey Federation and Quality Deer Management Association are involved actively in this type of issue. Both the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited like to take the limelight, but they fall woefully behind the other organizations in fundings and grants to local projects. In our state, the first guys bought "trunks" filled with just these items, but "someone" has to ask.

Most tanneries are standard in their pricing. The better ones are withn pennies of each other and the only savings would be in shipping so it would be better to find one closer.

Try George Brady

He is out of Washington state. Quoted me $11 for skunk and I think $22 on fox. These were real reasonable as I have been paying $45 for the fox with a guy who is a good friend of mine. George Brady <cascadeb@televar.com>. Just copy paste the last part and that should get you through to him

Thanks George

Thanks George I was just going by what the C.O. said when they droped all this stuff off last night. He is big in the hunter ed so I'll call him today and see if he can rattle some more cages and get some money.

I mounted a standing tom turkey and a ringneck pheasant for our DEC to use in sting operations. Guess who paid for it, the NWTF.. There is lots of funding as George said, you just gotta go knocking...
