Vegetable-, vinegar tanning

I was just wondering if anyone knows about vegetable or vinegar tanning.
I need to preserve rabbit skin or sheep intestine with the consideration
for human oral contact later on. Therefore tanning process should be
the least toxic. The final skin will be a very thin membrane.

I've seen this question before and the only conclusion I can come up with is that Michael needs to come up with something other than animal membranes to preserve and eat. But then again, I'm a taxidermist and not a dietician.

the oral contact is going to include ingestion. I won't even come back to read the reason.

Maybe you should contact a meat processer and find out how they prepare sausage casings ( sheep, pig, cow intestines etc.) for use in making sausages.
