soft and pliable is what I am after = can I just tan with liqua tan then come back over it with liqui soft and get pretty much the same effect as if it was sent to the tannery? thanks in advance.

The reason being is they place their hides in a tumbler and that's what makes the very soft and pliable. If you want to make your's soft, do what your doing and then you have to break the hide over a blunt edge.
