After once again removing a portion of my index finger last night with my rotary knife, I have begun contemplating the buying of the kevlar gloves you see advertised (IMAGINE THAT, LOL). You know how difficult it is to type with out your index finger!
Does anyone use those gloves and do you find them cumbersome? More importantly do they actually work? Considering I usually only remove a piece of my own flesh every 6 months or so I am not sure they are worth the hassle. I probably have a few years left in me before I have to switch trigger fingers!
Thanks
Chris

Chris save yourself alot of trouble, fingers, and your own blood... go to a pressure washer!Much safer!I was skeptical at first, but after using one, i will never flesh a cape on a round wheel again.
you need metal mesh gloves for optimum protection. Tried kevlar got cut bought one metal mesh glove, can be worn right or left.
1-800-456-5624, koch supplies, meat processor supplier has them.
The only time I cut myself is when I do not wear them. I wear them 100% of the time. I do not flesh everyday or every week for that matter, but when I do, I am safe. You can cut through them if you hold the glove on the blade long enough, but they do protect. Wither they are cumbersome or not is ill relevant. They work. If you fleshed everyday, you could get good enough to go without. But that is like driving without seatbelts, someday, your going to pay.
I only needed to get hit once, but now I always ware them. They will cut, but it gives you that instant to get your finger away. I think that with time you learn not to put your finger on the blade, but I won't try it again without. Wouldn't flesh without them !
I wondered if a rotary kife would cut through the glove, certainly not the same as a knife blade hitting your skin. However , I can certainly see how a glove would give you mind the chance to say to your hand, "Hey dummy your about to donate blood". I don't think you are ever 100% cut proof even with experience.
Thanks for the input.

One time is all it took me. Shaved the inside of my palm off, yep painfull to say the lest.
THe gloves will help s slow thinker, and yes you will get use to using them and never flesh without them.
I have used three sets, the first set I did cut a few times. The other two sets are some 13-14 years old, I just toss them in the washing machine, at night.
they can be cut but are thick enuf i haven't got that deep yet... yet
