Pickle and Tan

Hey all,

I am tanning my first large hide and would like to do a rug mount. I have done small game but this is my first big task. I am ordering supplies for tanning, while the bear sits in the freezer, and was hoping I might get some help as to the best method for pickling and tanning to produce a soft malluable bear hide. Precautions would always be appreciated.

I guess everyone has to try it once

to find out why the rest of us use tanneries for bears. I hope you ordered a good degreaser, plus, do you have a tumbler with at least an 8 foot drop? If not, you will get to do the "old fashioned" way of breaking the hide. Best of luck to ya, your next post should be who's the best tannery.

dont use this as your first tanning experience

i do my own tanning but this isnt the one you want to be your first

a bear is not hard to tan at all.

and my bears are not grease at any time.
