Skipping Thinning and double oiling?

I am new to taxidermy do not have the equipment to thin a deer cape but I remeber reading something about if skipping thinning and double oiling? Would this work?

For taxidermy, Thinning isn't as needed as some will make it out to be. As long as all of the meat and connective tissue is removed the cape will mount up fine. It will shrink up a bit more though. If you are wanting a soft tanned hide, there is no sub for thinning. Joe

You have to thin certain areas

Your eye area, lips and nose area need to be thinned if nothing else. Otherwise, unless you use an epoxy glue you will have major shrinking and pulling. I'm with terryr...do the best you can. I thinned many a deer cape by hand.
