Impala size question and soaking question

I just received an Impala. It is salted and dried. I am planning on sending it to the tannery, but am considering tanning it myself, (I have done many whitetail with success) I have a couple questions.

Is there a way to determine, or even a close guess to the size of the cape. The salt dried cape measures 11" right behind the ears. The reason I am asking is that if the cape is really that small I am not going to waste time and money sending it away. If the salted cape will streatch a couple inches I may send it off and let the pros deal with it. Any ideas?

#2 If I soak the skin to determine the size before i send it away is there anything I can do to help guard against slipping. I have Basacryl, will that help?
Thanks for reading this far

should get at least 2 inches more and possibly much more on a any tanned skin verses salted. A salt dried skin will always be a much smaller size.

Don't soak it up

Measure the size once it's back from tanner, why would you need it now?,
Let the professional tanner do it, If you want the challenge then go for it ,but you CAN"T do it is well as they can. You'll do it once.
An 11" salted cape will go about at least 14+ when done, decent Implala average cape, not small.

THANKS EVERYONE
