Slippage question

Submitted by Ahab on 6/15/06 at 9:38 PM. ( ) 68.226.140.126

I have read about special products that are good for preventing slippage. I have no idea what these prods are composed of but was wondering if anyone have ever experimented with glutaraldehyde solution. I think this is more safe than formalin to use...
thanks

What health effects can exposure to glutaraldehyde cause?

The following health effects have been reported in hospital workers exposed to glutaraldehyde:

Throat and lung irritation

Asthma, asthma-like symptoms, and breathing difficulty

Nose irritation, sneezing, and wheezing

Nosebleed

Burning eyes and conjunctivitis

Rash—contact and/or allergic dermatitis

Staining of the hands (brownish or tan)

Hives

Headaches

Nausea
So why do you want to use this?

Does a proper pickle w/ correct baume NaCL work ej...

Thank u for the MSDS profile for Mr.T. I work with many chemicals in another capacity so I know the dangers. A little common sence and PPE goes a long way. We can find things prob more dangerous under our sinks and in our utility buildings...(not trying to be a SA just makin a point).

I will run some tests on the Glut- and see how it works.

why not try a product named Stop Rot? It is very safe, no oder and is a proven product. You can order it through taxidermy supply vendors. Another Item that works is Knoblochs skin prep. However nobodys stoping you from trying your own thing, but it sounds like overkill to me.

Thanks Mr. T

I have heard of the Stop-Rot but never used.
I will be sure and order some of this and give it a try.

what EJ is saying is, if its preped right in the first place, and in a timely manner, you shouldnt have a slippage problem. Slippage is caused mostly by human error, we all know that. I hope I dont make alot of people mad, but these anti-slip products exist, to bail out un-informed hunters, and Taxidermists that need to learn the most basic steps of their trade.

the most dangerous thing under my sink is them texas sized cock roaches.
besides, i'd rather put my stuff up right in the first place. i'm not try'n to build an atom bomb. are you?
when i bought my first tannery, i was given the formula for nitro glycerine and plastic explosives. i threw them away. i don't need them. do you? i rely on the american service men to take of that stuff for me.

You need to hire that guy and go on the road. That was the funniest thing I've read lately.
