It's called Lipoderm by BASF. All you need is a FED TAX ID#, and a $10,000 minumim order and you can have some too!
Get some Tanning oil #1 from Knobloch. It's the closest thing you can get.
Protal is the major oil sold for the garmet, shoe and upholstery leather industries. It is unbeatable and economical! You must try this! We recommend this product for finished tanning work over all the other oils. Unlike other oils, Protal penetrates the hide while it is still damp.
JrOsbor and Dave... there are actually several different tanning oils for several different purposes. Lightfast, neutral pH, acidic pH, etc.
BASF doesn't have a $10K minimum either. The most common tanning oil is actually not an oil, it's a "stuffing grease" that gets kicked in to the skins.
hey dave. in my humble opinion, you can not find a better charged oil than Bruce Rittels super soft! it dries well, and penetrates like no other. and near colorless. that makes it especially great for those white furs.
try it, i think you'll like it.
call your local tannery , and by the oil they use , many tanneries use mink oil , I use it all the time , I get it by the 45 gal barrels
That's 55 gal in the U.S.
I do not care for BASF Lipoderm
I use about 4 kinds call me if you need them I will tell you what I use no big secret.
I don't know nor do I care what BASF's minimum order is. I was trying to let Dave know that to get what the tannery's use, you are going to end up paying what the tannery's pay.
Someone on here said a while back that most tannerys spend thousands of dollars a year on R&D to get just the right oil. I'm not sure but I think it was Bruce Rittel himself.
