Ok what works better,a ph meter or ph papers?
Please help.

Bruce Rittel the same question at the World Show. The meter still has to be calibrated with papers. What happens if you trust the meter between calibrations, and the meter is off. I'll stick with the papers.
but I have to disagree with you 9 fingers. You absolutely do not calibrate a pH meter with papers. There is a calibration fluid that is used with mine. If you are using Rittels EZ tan the papers will be fine. If you are using Paratan from Knoblochs the tan pH is much more precise than papers can tell you. Also, tap water is usually very consistent in pH and can be used to calibrate in a pinch.
I was bored one day so I decided to play. I took some one year old 1-6 pH papers, some new 1-6 pH papers, some 1.1-2.2 pH papers, and some 1-12 pH papers. I tested them all in the same vat. The pH ranged from 1-3. I belive the 1.1-2.2 were dead on but not totaly sure. I think most meters have a buffering solution to check the meter with. None the less, distiled water is allways 7
John and jrosbor for the info, makes sense...but I guess I'll stick with the papers.
Depending on the range u wish to measure...u calibrate with buffers of 4.0 / 7.0 / 10.0.
For example..if i'm measuring pH's between 2.5 and 5.6...i would do a two-point calibration w/ buffer's 4.0 + 7.0. typically everday i calibrate to ensure accuracy for my work (not taxidermy). But for casual use calibrating once a week may be ok.
A very good company that supplies meters is:
HACH Tel 800-227-4224
Very good unit can be had for about $400 w/ probe.
Also it is important to mention that when using a digital meter w/ probe...THE PROBE MUST be stored properly (KCL) solution, etc in order to avoid the probe becoming contaminated...
For General taxidermy work the pH papers would prob be sufficient
