hello

i wanna ask you about using fixed bed catalyst hydrogenation. i want to produce lauryl alcohol from methyl ester. actually its for my design project. can you help me by answering all my questions. thanx...

- where and how can i get hydrogen for the hydrogenation? i've search in the web that is using gasification and etc. but in your opinion what's the best method to get hydrogen consider our environment, safety and health and economically?

-can u explain further more about fixed bed catalyst hydrogenation?

-what is the chemistry process involved in this lauryl alcohol production?

-is it correct from methyl ester we can get lauryl alcohol?

thanx for your time

as your catalyst, you'll need a high pressure hydrogenation system. Hydrogen in a cylinder is your best bet, be careful...Not like the Mythbusters(anybody see that episode?), use a regulator...

I guess you could use electrodes and hydrolysis to break water into hydrogen and oxygen, but it'll take a long time...

But, why not just buy the 1-dodecanol? It's relatively cheap, 500gm for $20...

Or, you could just squeeze a few coconuts! I make my soap the old fashioned way, with lye, fat and olive oil...coconut oil will give more suds though...

What kind of fat are you using?
Not sure if you want a taxidermist to answer this...You might try posting this on a chemistry board or a soapmaking board...
Don't you have a Merk index?
What country are you in anyhow?
How's the weather?
What are you all paying for a gallon of gas?
