you will have to break the hide for soft leather

I use LUTAN-F ,EZ-100, and Liqua-tan.I have produced leather with Liqua-tan that was just as soft as the hides that I have done with Lutan-f and EZ-100,but you have to break the fibers of the hide for soft leather regardless of which tan you use.
most all the tanneries do a good job.

Home tanning is just a pain. All of the above work well though.
