Need to de-odorize a deer skin

I had posted about this before, but didn't get much help. I have a fallow deer hide that I tanned in the beginning of the month and it still smells rather strong.

I tanned the hide with the Van Dyke's Syn-Oil tanning kit, followed all the instructions. It tanned nicely, but the odor is strong and my dad is not being very tolerant about it. (The skin was already shaved thin when I got it, so leftover flesh on it is not the problem.) I have to keep the skin in my closet because he won't allow it in the garage, but now it makes my closet (and some of the things in the closet) smell bad and my dad fusses about it whenever he comes into my room.

When I kept the skin in the garage after I first tanned it, my dad would spray Febreeze all over it whenever he came home. I'm wondering if that strengthened the smell of the hide. It says on the Febreeze bottle that its not reccomended for leather.

Does anyone know of any way I can de-odorize this hide?

Thanks for any help I can get!
