Preserving hides while in long transport

I'm in Oklahoma, and my brother-in-law has a antelope hunting trip planned in Wyoming. He's in hopes to bring back a flat hide for a rug and a cape for mounting. Ideally, I think it would be great if he could cape out and flesh the one for mounting, and flesh the flat hide and salt them both down while he transports them home.

As far as I know, there will be no taxidermist on hand to cape out the one for mounting, and he may not be skilled enough to completely flesh the flat hide.

He said that they would be bringing ice chests to keep these cool... but it could be 3 or 4 days... I'm not sure that that's enough prevention from slippage. I thought about sending him with some stop-rot to spray them down with in addition to keeping them in the ice chests. We wouldn't want salted hides in an ice chest would we?

By the way, I've also got a friend going on an elk packing trip in Wyoming too. The same question applies for that animal while it gets back to me... and I see it as a greater risk due to the thickness of the hide.

Advice?

your initial guide service should be able to take care of that for you. but it was a good idea to ask here too.
