Can I neutralize hides in a seperate drum than the one that I use to
pickle? I would like to be able to reuse my pickle solution (30 gallons in a plastic 55 gallon drum). Mostly I am concerned with disposing of the 30 lbs. of salt each time but I am worried about acid swell with just using baking soda and little or no salt in the
neutralization process. I am pickling with Rittel's Safty Acid and
tanning with Liqua-Tan which requires me to bring the ph up to 4.5
(4.5 is correct isn't it Mark?)

Yep do in seperate drums. Acid swell? no way soak the hide for 15-20-min in the neutralizern and proceed with tanning

Yes looks great, Ph of 4.5 Frank is correct, follow his
instructions. You can use separate drum and just make sure
that you neutralize your pickle before disposing. Mark
