Hide Pickled and oiled but not tanned . What to do.

I have a whitail deer hide that was pickled with formic acid and then oiled withn protol, but was never tanned is there a way to remove the oil and tan or not. Any help please, and thanks.

Assuming its already dry - I'd sweat it overnight like you would to prepare a cape for mounting, then get it back into a pickle, then degrease it, neutralize it, and go into the tan you choose. The touchy part is neutralizing it again prior to tanning. Too much exposure to an alkaline tends to pulp or weaken the epidermis. This may be good for a freshly pickled cape - but one thats been this way for awhile may cause you problems.
