Rabbit Fur

Submitted by mjb on 12/14/99. ( )

I have attempted to tan a few rabbit furs and have had minimal luck coming up with a nice soft end product. First thing I do is salt, then wash thouroghly, pickle with Van Dykes pickling crystals, then tan with curatan. It seems that there is a fine layer that forms over the skin and is impossible to remove without tearing the skin. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your assistance!!! What step/steps am I missing????

Rabbits are tricky! They have very thin skin and unless you flesh them from the tail towards the head - they easily tear! Send me your Postal mailing address and I'll send you a copy of our "the right way - is the only way" fleshing info. It should help. Click on my e-mail address above.
