Bear claw preserving

I have a bear hide that was salted but now is slipping I'd like to save the claws, after skinning them out what do I do to preserve them.

Bear claws are keratin, the same thing as your fingernails. Since your hide is already slipping, you should be able to just grab the claw and pull it off the bear. (If not now, very soon anyway.) The claws are simply sheaths that cover the "quick" . Once removed, they are good to go. You can fill them with epoxy putty, put a loop in them and use them as decoration, jewelyr, etc.
