Iodized Salt

Submitted by Dave Hammond on 3/30/99. ( the_hammonds@msn.com )

I know we are all supposed to only use non-iodized salt, but why. What happens if you salt your hides in iodized?....what is the difference when it comes to preserving your hide?

Thanks,
Dave

Salting

Dave, The main reason for always using a pure product that is a
high grade is so that you don't get any impurities in it.
What impurities can do is get bacteria started in the hide.
The fine and good grade will also do a better job drawing out
the moisture in the hide and penetrate quicker, giving better
hair setting qualities. If any more questions let us know.
