When to measure

Submitted by Dave on 11/2/1998. ( rkerr1998@aol.com )

I've got a few capes almost ready to tan, and two that I definitely want to mount this weekend. My question is this, should I measure the capes before or after I neutralize them? Does it really make a difference? I know this may sound like a dumb question but I have to work out of my apartment this week and have limited space to use. The plan is to get the capes tonight, finish fleshing the faces Tuesday night, measure and order forms on Wednesday morn, and tan Wednesday night. Think I'll be better off and pull a late one and do everything tomorrow night? ( my wife will love that)
Thanks,
Dave

Measure After tanning

The failsafe way in my opinion is to tan and oil your capes then measure for ordering a form. Regardless of what the deer measured order for the size it is, not what it measured. It should be the same size, sometimes it is not, sometimes I have found it is larger, you have to work with what you end up with. The Fur Dresser
