I just returned from a michigan, ruttin, cornfed bowhunt for the elusive whitetail greasers and brought home everything but my measurements on the head ,because of the situation on hand,I was forced to cape the head prior to transporting back home. I would like to proceed in fitting the cape to a manikin , but in all the excitement I have somewhere missed-placed my measurements. he's a fine 8 pt. ol swamp buck ,that dressed at 215 lbs. . The rut was in full swing and he had a pretty swelled-up neck. I also need ref. to a tannery. thanks for any feedback on my situation , if this new hobbie of mine helps keep me out of trouble with my wife, she might even fund it for me ! ( ha ha !! )

Chris, stop and think a second...do you have the cape? Measure it. Thats the same thing as the carcass it just came off of. I dont want you to feel foolish but it's really that simple. Now, trying to get your wife to fund the hobby...now you're talking about a tough one!!! E-mail me if you need more help, or on the forum. Later, Bill.

thanks for the response, heres another foolish one.

I have two slug holes in the cape, both down low behind the shoulder, but one of which is about three inches long and is oval shaped. My question is it beyond repair (especially for greenhorn like me)or is it workable ? thanks again, chris.

now youre pushing your luck, buddy

not a foolish one. Just a tough one. We usually cut the damage out of the cape until we are into the good hair, in the shape of a football, going with the hair direction. Then you sew it carefully. This way the skin doesnt pucker too noticeably. I wait till after I am satisfied with my skin taxi-ing and then pin them shut because I'm so fond of sewing! Next time shoot him in the lungs when he's looking the other way! Good luck and stop asking questions and just get the darned thing mounted, will ya? Just kidding, good luck with him, Bill Yox.

does not compute..
