Tanning A Coyote With Rittel's Traplie Tanning Kit

Submitted by Tim Chick on 1/25/1999. ( 1Chick@Home.Com )

I am just begining to do taxidermy as a hobby. I have done various mounts useing the dry presertive method and have had good success.Right now I am in the process of tanning a coyote useing Rittel's trapline tanning kit. The skin was salted and pickled so I added the kwik-tan to the mixture only to find out that I had mixed to much water, vinegar and salt.
I needed 22.5oz. of kwik-tan and only had 16oz. So my question is will the mixture still tan the hide and just take longer. Or did I just ruin my hide????

Tim, I wouldn't let the skin soak any longer, I think you just asking for trouble if you do. Do as you normaly do and hope for the best. Bob C
