You can charge to teach whatever you want if you can find someone to pay you. If you are looking to market yourself, you might spend some extra time competing and making sure you are up to date on the latest techniques. I've heard the story about the "top notch" guy a bunch of times, let's just say some peoples definition of top notch is no way near mine.

state certification requirements

there are many states whose board of higher education will not allow you to charge money for training (taxidermy, or any other type of training) without their approval. the certification process is, necessarily, grueling. site inspections are held regularly. every aspect of your business, from instructor qualifications to financial history and holdings to curriculum records to equipment inventory to personnel, has to be approved before you begin, and has to be resubmitted, and re-approved, every year.

before you invest heavily in marketing, equipment, and staff, you might want to contact your state board of education. in missouri, we are accountable to dese (department of elementary and secondary education) and the missouri board of higher education (college level). if you begin building your school while working in tandem with the officials whose duty it is to regulate schools, they will make sure that you are building a school that they can be proud of, and that you can be, too.
