I want to enter into a taxidermy school in about a year. I live in southern New Mexico. Neither price or distance is important.

Do you really think the owner/instructor at a school is going to tell you that school is second rate to anyone? Do you think someone who's attended any school is ever going to admit they were taken? Click the orange SEARCH icon and type in your same posting. You may be surprised at what you read.
you will read lots of information on the WASCO forum. For sure most of it is with great intention and tremendous benefit, I would add however that some of it is not. George is correct in his evaluation regarding your question. If I were a new learner and money or distance was not a consideration I would spend time taking many 1 on 1 workshops offered for the max time they could accommodate you. All in all you would pretty much spend the same amount more or less and would really reap the benefits of the individual attention. There are many wonderful schools out there but if you really want to give your self a head start in learning look into individual workshops. Like any thing else in taxidermy there are no real standards so virtually any one can call them selves an instructor.
I would base my decision on a few things. 1. How long have they been teaching not just doing taxidermy? 2. What is the track record of their students as a whole? Mind you not every one gets in to this business to do it as a business. Lastly what would you expect to learn and walk away with for your time and money? Remember Taxidermy is an industry in which people do this for profit as well as fun. Some taxidermy have discovered that you can make money teaching as well. Making money is the end result of doing good business and I would never ever begrudge any one from turning a profit so choice wisely Levi.
This is only my opinion and I'm just one person but look carefully before committing.
My Best and I hope this may have helped!

Check it out. Tom Matuska and staff will please you. You will have supply co. at location along with great instruction. They now offer workshops specific to birds, fish, gameheads or a nine week course. Not cheap but what education is? Iam a former student and employee for Tom, that could not be more pleased. I think it has been four years since I last worked for Tom and we still chat often at shows,in his shop or on the phone. He is willing to help long after the class is over. You will feel like family. Give them a call @ 1 800 488 3256. Tell them I sent you, or if you have any other questions email me.

Western Pennsylvania School of Taxidermy with Marc Jordan. I just graduated July 28, 2006 Mr. Jordan does everything in his power to make sure students learn and retain skills he teaches. But it also comes from with in yourself. If u want to learn alot then u will. The course he offers is 8 weeks and very affordable. he has many earned champion mounts and his brother Tim Jordan with his Best in World Turkey mount is awesome and they can answer any questions you have. I know that learning never ends but with a skilled and knowledgable teacher to boost your intended skills then you should at least call Mr. Jordan, as well as maybe even visit his school. It makes me sick to my stomach for those folks that have never gone to school to sit here and tell that it is a waste of money. I spent close to $14 thousand for law school It did not interset me I am still not a lawyer so that my freind is a waste of money. If you attend a reputable school then commit to taxidermy and use what you learned then that is not a waste of money. While I have under $10 thousand invested in my taxidermy schooling and I am using it now.
