This website is a brief compilation spanning more than 40 years of one man's exploration. While this all began with a basic flying or standing pose made to suit the commercial client, anyone can see that there is more to the early works than simply an accurate pose on a sculpted base; there has always been this compelling purpose at work in Newmyer's depictions. Each portrayal became much more than a record of natural history; as the work evolved into a highly intricate concept of natural surroundings, a careful storyline would emerge from his passionate developing of vision, talent, and invention.
What he had brought out with cases and portholes
and water scenes did not release that inner drive which continued to press
him for more than what can be represented with physical objects, a deepening
desire to explain the force existing within the substance of life. Newmyer
dramatically broke through this obstacle with a sophisticated means of
being in touch with the art of description. His art has separated him from
the naturalist. Expressing more than what is merely experienced through
the five physical senses, these twelve controversial pieces reflect the
force of man's internal spirit.
