15 words a taxidermist doesn't like to see in a text..

Sometimes there hard luck sob story takes longer than there drive to your house.

im broke as hell, want be picking up deer for 5 to 6 months. If im not there by then I will have to buy for Christmas so it will be around February before i pick it up.

Note: I did not make that up! Was actually told that. Both paragraphs, It didn't go over good neither with me.
Especially since i mounted it without a deposit!

 

Joey, except in some circumstances or an exceptionally large bill, I have gone from 50% down to payment in full up front. With credit cards being used 80% of the time (for me) it just didn't make sense to chase payment when my average job total was only around $500 bucks. I'm sure I'm losing a job or two, but who cares?!?!? Pickups are fast and when shipping my customers respond quickly (I make sure somebody is there for a signature). It saves time too!

 

Ill be back with your deposit by friday,moneys not a problem.whats your turnaround?..........16 fridays later

 

This after they have called every week for months wanting to know when will it be done?

 

LOL ! I've heard about all of these before. We all know the ones that start calling 2 months after they drop off pretty much are going to drag ass around picking up.

These things are how friendships end too.
Kinda long story but true.
A USE to be friend brought in three mule deer antlers and skins he purchased off ebay. Wanted them mounted on s tree and corner base he made from old wood from new mexico he had picked up.
Before i can continue let me drop in a previous story that ties back in.
He was a deer farmer and was going through a divorce. He backs up to my front door one eving with a trailer load of his deer show set up. It was a free standing log wall and log table. Wanted me to store it since i had all this room. Well i really dont ,but I didn’t say nothing! The dam thing was huge. So i just made a temp room out of it by adding another wall to it and placing in a corner. Bolted it together so I could disassembled when needed.
BACK to story.
He tells me he is building a new house a a man cave just for this project. Asked if if would be ok if he left it here untill the house was finished. I agreed but it has to be paid for upon completion. He agreed. Now mind you before he left we wound up in my parking lot just talking. And the last thing i said to him was (name) when its done i will call you , and payment will be due then, his reply Ok!
I get it completed call him tell him it done. He loves it. Three months later no payment nor have i pushed it. So i give him a call. He just made up a been busy , forgot excuse.
I tell him its been three months i need my money! He says he will send check. Two more months no check. Call back this time i get the sob sad story, divorce , new house unexpected expenses, other crap.
I fianlly said I dont care about your problems I want my money. He starts ranting then brought up his log wall, i had made the room out of. And he was going to deduct $500 for his wall. Now im pissed. And ranting my self.
#1 you didn’t bother to ask me if i would store it.
2 it just bolted in not permanent
3 you owe me storage fees on it 800.00
4 you havent paid for the mule deer in 5 months
He says storage fees , yep storage fee you started the deduction crap. Im adding back on.
Now he is cussing , I ask him ( name) did or did i not tell you in my parking lot payment was due when I completed them. Silence falls then he says yes. So why are we arguing you owe me the money! Pay for them or there for sale!
Check will be in the mail tomorrow he says. Week later i got half and two weeks later the rest.
Now here the kicker its been almost two years the muleys are still here, and the wall. So how long does it take to build a house ? Heres a pic of his mulleys and the dam log wall.

This happened this past weekend. Got this guys deer head done like in 8 months. He called and was like in a hurry. I got the form and mounted it. The cape had fighting scars all over it (old deer) I had cut out 5 big scars in the forehead, but when I was finished you couldn't tell. Cut two big long body scars out and they groomed over nicely, couldn't tell. After 3 weeks I did the finishing work, let dry and called him, one excuse after another, finally he shows. First thing he says, is that a head up mount? (I said yes just like the one you pointed at). Are you sure, doesn't look like it, I wanted his head up, (IT IS UP JUST LIKED YOU ASKED FOR) What's this, (it's a scar I left because it was small, looked ok to me) It wasn't there when I killed it. Then he looks around the room, that's how I wanted it, just like this one. Well he only asked about that one but picked the head-up one. Now he says he wanted the form like doing a licking branch. Then he went back to you sure that capes mine, he looks old, (he is old) you know what I'm saying, he looks old. Then he said what's with the nose, it's shinny, looks like a clown nose, WTF is next I'm thinking. Doesn't look like the noses you did on my other ones ( 9 years ago ). Finally he paid me and left. About 10 minutes later he calls me, you sure that's my cape? It looks like an old mount. I'm sure he is not done complaining yet.

 

I think i told this before but its worth repeating.
Mounted a deer for a guy. He seemed pleased when he left. About two weeks later I was at another taxidermy shop a friend, his shop is 40 miles away. He brings up this customers name. He asked me if i had switched his cape. Remembering this deer well, the answer was NO! He said the guy is saying the deer looks great but it aint his cape. Thats what he is telling. To which i said yes it is to.
When I return home I knew where the guy lived. So i go by, knock on the door. When he sees me i swear his face was WTF. I tell him what i heard he invites me in and says its not my cape. This is why i know it isnt my cape, and i quote, my cape is lighter color on one side of his face than the other. He walks over to the deer and points, see this aint like that. I got pictures to prove it aint mine. Which he go and gets. Now i know for 100% certain its his cape. So i look the deer over good and find two small molds on the left side of his face. Then i take a look at the pics he is showing me. The two molds is clear as a bell. I got him!
I said do you see the two molds on the deer face in the pics. Yes, whats are these on the deer mount. He looks up and sheer shame swept across his face and says two molds. It is my cape. Im so sorry. But why has the color changed.
I looked back at the pictures , and wanted to just bust out laughing.
I said to him is shadow on one side, sun shinning on the other. Your pants is the same way. He looks at the pic. And literally drops his head and says I am idiot! That’s exactly what i was thinking to my self too.

 

good buddy Ive known since high school 72-74 mounted many deer for him... the last one was a dandy close to 210 typ..... got it in dec... had it done by august.... charged him only 350 "buddy discount" he calls it told him its done he says bring it up to deercamp in nov only 10 miles apart so I bring it he loves it no payment wants to pay cash so wife doesnt see ck later that week his kid brings his buck these guys shoot everything in the neck told him 6 months and 400 why so much? your not my buddy your dad is again done in august he wants to pick up told him he can take it if he brings $ for his dads deer gets p*ssed says bring to deer camp he pays still no money from his dad anyway 18 months he pays now his kid says he wants a new mount cuz rust stains from some "staples" he says I dont use staples maybe a t pin told him bring it over and I will wink the rust never came no more mounts for these guys buddy for 40 years and his kids a total "richard"

 

I $h!t you not, just yesterday I sent a client a text asking when "are you coming to pick up your deer, you have been hounding me since May and now it's been 3 weeks since I told you it was ready?"

He sent me a picture of his son playing in the sand at the beach and said, "I'll see you the middle of next week."

They say a picture is worth a thousand words......or I guess in this case 15 words!

what I hate worst is everybody wants to come on sat or sun.... ahhh noo Im not going to hang around on my weekend... I will wait around a bit but not going to deal on sat/ sun...

 

Okay heres one: "But you told me it was only going to be $500"!

I know thats not 15 words either but get this.......The dude handed me the $500 check for a full body African lion standing over a full body dead impala on a 12 foot rolling cabinet pedestal base complete with African scenery!!!!!

Anybody priced just a African male lion form lately?

Long story short the dude was rich and I did get payed but not from him!! The guys dad made good on it but the kid has never spoken to me again! Which is fine with me! Some people are just not worth the trouble!

 

He probably will say I can’t afford to pay for all of it right now because of vacationing at the beach.
