Is This "commercial Taxidermy"?

It doesn’t make a rats ass what Rick or anyone else thinks about there peers skills or lack there of. It doesn’t matter if you personally think your Gods gift to taxidermy. It doesn’t matter if you have won ever award available.
All that matters is what ALL of your customers think about the product you return to them.
If their happy, ecstatic over a mount. You succeeded 100% at what you was hired to do. You dont sux to them!

 

My first mount sucked......but I was better after about a year of practice! Then after five years I was even better! Then after 15 yeas I was better still! Then after 25 years I really improved. Then at 35 years I was at the top of my game! Hell...the mounts I did this week are better than the ones from a month ago! So my question is........How long do I have to do this $#!t before I no longer suck?

 

By 150 you should be at the top of your game. Unfortunately you will be
31st in the state and won’t make the cut.

Regardless of skill, we are all in the taxidermy profession; “a calling requiring specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic preparation”.

Those of you who make money from taxidermy are commercial; “suitable, adequate, or prepared for commerce”.

Quality from both can and does vary widely!

 

Some of the best have the most money in the bank because they have other jobs.

Not what I hear, but that's a whole nother story and better left in the bar. I'm speaking in relation to abilities to recreate nature.

 

You guys are taking this WAY too seriously. 1500 taxidermist doing great work is still a lot. That's more than all the members of the NTA. It's more than the members of any state association. It's more than all the people who attend the World show. My comments only strike a nerve if you fear you may not be in the 1500 number that I pulled straight out of thin air. Do your mounts look like live animals? Do you consistently produce mounts that capture the essence of the animal? If not, then why would anyone take me to task over the quality of their own work? There's nothing I can do to fix your errors flaws, or shortcomings. I don't know of any teacher who can mix a concoction of the knowledge they worked for and pour it into your brain. The effort required to become a great taxidermist is entirely up to you. If you only need to impress the people who pay you then make all the money you can and quit worrying about it. Most clients know far less than you and don't really care. If you know your work sucks and you just don't care, the responsibility all falls back on you. If you are already pretty sure your work is among the best, congratulations! You are a fine artist who put in a lot of work studying anatomy. Be confident in excellence. Stay humble enough to recognize that you still have a very long way to go.

I guess most here haven't heard of Archie Phillips. Professional taxidermist. Incredible business man. Good human being. That's about all i have to say about that.
