Yes the shipping expense for most of it is crazy ,the only reason I use blue foam is I can pick it up locally.

Same here. Well, and the cheap cost! I can get the Dow billets for about a 1/4 the price of the high end foam if you count all costs (shipping too). Certainly the most cost-effective way to go and a small price to pay for having dust everywhere! Also, fyi if you like a denser foam Dow also offers billets called "Square Edge" (or at least use to offer) that leave a bit less dust and won't dent as easily. Tougher to carve though is the drawback with Square Edge.

I found a place to buy the denser foam 60 miles from me,125 for a block 110 for shipping ,if I didn't mind Chicago traffic I would pick it up myself.

Why don't you copy and paste the link to the Home Depot page so we don't have to search through 30 pages of boat dock flotation devices. I gave up after 6 pages......

But cheaper than a taxidermy supplier ,maybe they hide a shipping fee in there.

Frank, check out the better sign shops as they use this foam also. My son carved several signs out of this foam and they may have scraps or can get it for you.
