George, it is the truth. Funny thing about you is that as soon as someone makes a statement that is not in line with you, then you resort to making a claim of being slandered then you say something nasty about the person who posted. Bullies do that. You do that. I pity you.

I wanted to step away from this but find people must be honest with them self. Go read the first 2 post on this thread. Who started the stir? The one who came on asking the taxidermy net. Community what he found and if any knew? Or the one distraught that it was brought public before they were spoken to. A soft answer of the truth all would of be forgiving and helpful if they could help resolved this. Sad to say one did come on and haphazardly used a word "scam" where it never applied.

I wished you took the opportunity to make all questioning this matter look foolish.

Again thank you for taking on this project and getting good help from your community for the funds needed beyond donations of the taxidermy industry.

Why don't you drive up there and find out yourself? Pay homage to the man whose shoulders we all stand upon. It's less than a three hour trip one way. You could take pictures of your brick and George's brick and whoever else's brick he meant to photograph, post them here or send them to George and that way you could ameliorate his disappointment a bit. Make everything all better. Well, maybe not everything. Or maybe not so much better. More like improved. Slightly improved, I would think. I'm sure George would appreciate the kind gesture.

its starting to sound like it was done in a hurry. if they were done wrong they will be covered in weeds by next summer. someone could pull the weeds i suppose. its just easier to do it right.

    Hope, I am wrong..Bye

You are wrong. But then again this was not the point. It was a gesture and the way everyone is going on about it makes it sound like this was the primary purpose.

I thought I would post this after doing a little research. Mr Akeley’s memory and life isn’t just a carved stone at a cemetery in Clarendon. He’s a favorite son and his life is still very much alive there. His stories and adventures are retold to educate and inspire future generations. From humble beginnings as a farm boy to become a legend of an industry.
I wonder how many youngsters are there to listen wide eyed to his adventures that are provided by the Clarendon Historic Society and The Orleans County organization.
His memory is still very much alive there thanks to the good people there and not just a stone monument.

If we could break from this content and if I could ask Melissa a question
I have heard that Clarendon is going to have an Akeley Museum, is this true? If it is could you elaborate on what’s being done?
    Thanks,
    Dave York

Akeley did precisely that - entertain wide eyed youngsters, that is. Here's the proof below.
If you're an Akeley aficionado you would enjoy my book, A Conversation with Carl Akeley. There's nothing else like it anywhere. You need details? Drop me a line.
