Ziplock Bags For Long Term Storage Of Claws And Other Parts

    I've recently stored my bear claws and boar tusks in ziplock bags and was wondering whether the bags will degrade over time and leak damaging chemicals or sludge to the claws.

    Will animal parts, namely claws and tusks, react with the plastic and rot? Will it be discoloured?

    Does anyone have any experience with storing parts in ziplock bags and for how long? 5 years? 10 years?

    Put them in a ziplock and store them in freezer, can keep them in there for a long time

    I meant for long term storage in a dry place such as a drawer or cupboard with room temperature.

    Is there any tissue left on these claws or tusks? If there isn’t then they’ll be fine

    Nope, none of them have any flesh left. Thanks for the confirmation. Btw, Many of my bear claws have the knuckle bone removed, so the end of the claw is open and brittle, some even cracking at the edges. Should I use epoxy or epoxy putty to fill up the inside of the claw? or are there any other options?

    I would think to wrap them in a paper towel inside the zip-lock. This would absorb any moisture or grease. I store extra parts in small plastic drawers used for screw and small bolt storage.

    Any of the super glue “gel” type glue works pretty good for stuff like that. I’ve never used it for claws but have used it to fill the inside of boars tusks on European.

    Yup, paper towels will solve the issue of humidity to a certain extent. I was mainly concerned about whether ziplock bags will degrade in a couple years and release gasses that will ruin the claws.

    What is the brand that you're using? I've heard that crazy glue will expand slightly when curing, this might crack claws or tusks when you fill them up with this glue.

    I don't think that's an issue. Zip-Lock bags will last a looooong time if kept away from direct sunlight. If they do break down, there should be no damage to your claws.
