try filming a taxidermist mounting an animal that actually exists....field work , anatomy study, proper measuring and fitting are part of the “process”....doing a “” bigfoot”” is just a guessing game and nothing to do with the actual science of the study of taxidermist.....nothing more than a big “ build a bear workshop”

Theres nothing wrong with having an opinion Ted, I couldn't stand the movie either, it was well made but I thought it was ridiculous. Byrdman never said anyone was making him watch it he is just giving his opinion. So if someone has an opinion different from yours they have to go pound sand? Really?

I dont much care for bigfoot except as a legend like Paul Bunyan, unicorns,dragons,and I dont care much for Ken Walker as a taxidermist or his attitude.First 5 minutes was enuf.

 

George Roof is probably the most respected wise member on here(other than his bigfoot belief) but we dont fault him for that...

 

Its simple Jerry, I won't pretend to know who Byrdman is, but if he wants to make comments like he did claiming that this isn't taxidermy he should back it up with some credentials.

I am remembering now exactly why I stopped coming here. So much negativity and Jealousy in some people.

We all know what you guys think of Ken, the people you talk to about him talk to him so he's aware of what some of you think, and he couldn't care less. He's not some egomaniac like some of the people in this industry. I'd love to see some of the ego's here do some of the things he's done, or better yet beat him at his own game, which many of you haven't

 

After re reading the posts, there's not one personal attach against Ken, If there is point it out to me. It's about the movie itself, not Ken. Wheres this jealousy you speak of in the comments? You're taking offense where there are no comments against Ken in any way, it's all about the movie. What egos? What does having an opinion about a movie you don't like have to do with someones ego? How is not liking a movie being negative?

This comment from Byrdman is more than enough to take offense to. Like I said earlier Jerry, Ken is aware of how much some people talk about him. His only comment to me was that he doesn't like everyone and doesn't expect everyone to like him.

I watched this movie other day after it popped up on prime and I gotta say i really enjoyed it. Ken is a great guy i had the pleasure of meeting him once and touring his shop about 11 years ago when i was just a teenager who wanted to be a taxidermist. I learned more in that couple of hours than i had in months of scouring forums and watching old vhs videos. Showed up in a rusty pickup, a scrawny teenager looking to see if any local taxidermists were hiring apprentices. Brought him one of my first mounts to critique, a woodchuck i had done up and honestly it looked horrible looking back now. But Ken was kind and constructive. Didnt tear it apart just had a conversation about techniques that made my next attempt ( a muskrat) look night and day better. Never had the chance to take a class with him before life got in the way a couple years later as it does when you step out into the world on your own. But maybe someday haha.

Watching this movie other day as I go about my now hectic life and regular day job in the middle of edmonton made me remember simpler times and a passion I used to have as a teenager 11 years ago. It made me go into an old storage cabinet and pull out my collection of breakthrough manuals and start looking at the storage room in my apartment figuring out how it can be turned into a workshop space for picking up the practice again as a hobby.

So honestly, thankyou and thanks to ken as well for helping me rediscover a passion and interest that i hadnt felt since 2012 and honestly kinda walked away from in 2015. Now at 28 years old I feel like chasing my dreams again even if just as a hobby for the next few years.

And for those tearing this apart (byrdman) maybe we could all take kens advice from the movie and "step back and learn to get along" Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting ken in person can attest to his character and kindness

 

The most riveting part of the film to me was how organized George’s shop was.

 

No doubt. I also noticed how clean it was.
