So, the recent forum discussion about pickerel eyes led me to see for myself what the Tyler Erickson "World Class Fish Eyes" are all about...or not about at all.

Unable to find much about them on this mostly defunct forum, I ordered a single set of 16mm Crappie eyes (light) with cheapest shipping from the sole distributor (and forum sponsor?)...McKenzie Taxidermy Supply, ugh.

That cost me $15, even. Amazing how they hit that number on the dot, as if to spare my accountant any unnecessary maths. If I reuse the oversized box, I'm sure we'll come close to all square.

Truth be told, I like the eyes. They give a nice underwater look that is superior to all other commercial eyes I've tried.

Advertised as the most accurate fish eyes to ever hit the market, well, they still fail to hit the ten ring, but they fail better than any glass eyes I've seen.

Even the really fantastic and highly regarded SLLs miss that mark, although those offer superior customization (being plastic) as well as a more convincing out of water appearance.

I have to say that Tyler nearly got there, kudos to him. I wouldn't hesitate to use these eyes, especially if they were available from other distributors, like Matuska Taxidermy Supply.

For the price of one set of eyes, I can easily recommend clear resin as a more economic option. But, I doubt you're customer will be disappointed in the World Class Fish Eyes.

    Best, Scott

So you build them? Or paint them?

World Class Fish Replicas sells blanks. The backs are flat, probably a 12yr old can paint them.

Cheap, eh? Does't McKenzie run VD?

I like your approach, but imo, you should check these WCFEs out.

World Class Fish Eyes (WCFEs). Subject of post. :)

I see VD has them too. Are they better about shipping and handling? I think everyone who works at McZ must handle every order.

I'll have to see what I can find lying about and do a comparison.

I'd be surprised if these World Class Fish Eyes are bigger than flex eyes of the same size.

As well, I'd be surprised if Tohikon and Van Dykes eyes are far off once you sculpt the missing sclera.

I have a Natural Cast replica that calls for 16mm eyes, and these World Class Fish Eyes fit the orbitals, exactly.

Hmmm, not sure how that conversation went, but it simply isn't true. At least in my comparison.

The only part of the WCF eyes that's consistently bigger is the aqueous humour. (which has nothing to do with the eye measurements)

Here are 16mm commercial eyes, compared.

Ive used both the ones that mckenzie makes and had some preproduction ones direct from tyler to see what I thought.
The pre mckenzie purchase where not good except one. Pupils were off center, etc. they do give a neat effect when you look straight on though. They have a conical shape like a bird eye.
I have used one of the walleye eyes that I got from mckenzie and it’s much nicer. Not a giant fan of the shape( they are about twice as tall as a JL blank) but a cool walleye eye.

I'm not on Facebook and I haven't spoken to Tyler, so all I can go by is what I have in hand. That's one set, maybe there is an inconsistency?
