No, they're just stupid.

 

Math was my downfall and the only thing keeping me from a college degee I'd 6 hours credit in math. But even I figured out that if I did 100 mounts at $300, I could do 50 at $600 and make the same money in half the time.

 

And 50 less a holes to deal with.

 

$800.00 and no less. I'd rather loose taxidermy customers than my money.

Was just talk to a friend who does some very nice white tails. Tanner just emailed and said they are now at 105 for full service not shipped. I he had to have a single form shipped it’s well over 100 bucks. Eyes, ear liners , etc. your looking in the 250-300 range just in materials.
Shipping costs are the real killer right now.
I was needing to get a block of #2 carving foam. With shipping that 48 long block is gunna run easily 120+bucks. For bigger fish it’s now cheaper to buy and alter a form. Sucks that shipping costs the same if not more then the product.
I see taxi work become more of a luxury item then ever. And also people running into issues where high prices equate to higher equality that some can’t pull off.

 

shipping costs are going to get worse. gas prices are going to continue to climb.
maybe they can figure out how to make all this taxidermy stuff with that new fangled green energy stuff.

 

Heck, I can barely justifiably afford doing my own mounts, and I do this for a living.

Don't try to justify it, just do it. We make our living off of folks that do just that.

 

There was a guy that did birds only here near my home town when I was in my twenties. He was cheaper than every one but not by much. His draw was that you bring in your bird in, by appointment, before 10:00am and pick it up the next evening with instructions on how to let it dry or you could pick it up any time after the second day. His birds were not bad looking. I don't know his process, but I'm sure it was assembly line to the extreme.

My friends in Michigan that are in the7-800 dollar range and do very nice deer are down this year due to cost.

 

Me and my son are getting ready to start up in January. Our plan is to look at prices of folks in the area and be about the same. Maybe not as high as the experts but definitely not low ball either. My son wants to do this for a living one day. The lowest i have seen in this area is 450 for a shoulder mount. The guy I used to personally use in 650 range now. With the quality of his work it is worth the money to me. I never understand how people can spend so much on leases, guns, ammo, stands and all the other stuff and then want to go cheap on a mount.

While on this subject what kind of deposit is the industry norm? I was thinking maybe 50% at drop off so materials can be ordered.
