Phil Helms of China Grove, North Carolina passed away on August 14, 2022 after a long illness. A former Smithsonian taxidermist, Phil was well-known in the taxidermy industry from his frequent attendance at state, regional and national conventions as a technical representative for McKenzie Supply.

Phil was the first teacher I had when I got serious about taxidermy. He was a great teacher, mentor and friend. Very sorry to hear of his passing. Godspeed, my friend.

I am sorry to hear this. Kind of took me by surprise. I didn't know he had been Ill. I enjoyed talking about gator hunting when I met him a a taxidermy convention a few years ago.

You got that right. I breathed a ton of asbestos.
Plus our sedentary lifestyle required to do the work /art.
You guys remember to walk each day 45 minutes a day. Won't help with cancer. But it'll be good to help ward off other things.

What a wonderful person! I’m so thankful I knew Phil. He was an inspiration and a great example of how to treat others. No finer person exists. He will be greatly missed.
