thats what i was asking but found the story about the "intelligent" guy releasing it...lets see, weigh a,d kill it and get a free boat, the title, rods and tackle for life, magazine adds and all that, or let it go and "feel good"... how could you feel good with that choice.lol

The only info I could find on the internet for a Wisconsin World Musky Record were a few line class and fly rod records. I could find nothing beating Sprays farce of a fish. I doubt anybody is going to be getting too rich off of a line class record or fly rod record. If it were a 70 pounder, that would be another story...

  8. I think it was LAX Taxidermy, if my memoriy serves me the fish was caught in new york trolling, got to see it at a Muskey show in the spring, the fish was huge...

  9. I'm a little confused, you asked who got it to mold but it was released?

Rick Lax does have a mold. I saw it in the headquarters of Musky Hunter Magazine in St. Germain. Now, was that actually molded off a skin mount of the Spray fish???? I would find it unlikely. I would like to know the story behind it. Call Rick and let us know. Maybe I will later today. I know his muskie have a great new look to their eyes!

Hey Marty! Why the comment about "Spray's farse of a fish? I'm just curious.

Doug, it's pretty much a given by most that Spray exagerrated quite a bit on his fish. I'm not a big musky fisherman, nor do I follow things much, but I guess the actual mount mysteriously disappeared. In the recreation it's quite obvious a section was added in the middle. Going off of original pics and all other known info several experts have determined it to be nowhere near the claimed length. DougP was actually one that was asked to give his opinion and he can tell you the whole story. There's articles out there (including Dougs) somewhere on the internet...

  13. The Spray fish has been generally discounted by most muskie folks. There was some very organized study done of all the available evidence surrounding the alleged catch. I think the name of the group that conducted the study called themselves something like the "The World Record Muskie Alliance" They produced a 90 plus page document (I have it somewhere if anyone cares) of their findings, concluding that the fish in question was no where near the size Spray claimed. Also, I think the mount burned when Louie's bar burned down.
