Those coons are pretty much full of adipose(fat). Badgers smell like a milder skunk to me. But the one that took the cake with me was doing my first porcupine. It took me a month to get up my nerve and a lot of surfing on the forum hearing other people's methods. I guess it paid off though, DID NOT get stuck once...whew:)

Minks are rough, and real greaseballs too. But the cat smell just bothers me. Its hard to get rid of that odor on the hide too.

With coyotes it seems to vary. I've spent much of childhood around pet coyotes that various family members have had, and they do have a musky odor. It's not quite doggy smell; it's unique. I didn't find it offensive unless they got wet! But the male yotes I've skinned from roadkill smell awful, even when meatcounter fresh.

trappersteph now you can have it...

I have a cattle dog that needs a bath, he smells a bit like a coyote hide! But try giving that SOB a bath! First leather gloves and muzzle, then give bath. Or trick him and get a lead on his harness leash ring and hook him to the dog bath post! Then see if he is cool after that.

that is nothing, you want fat I have you all beat, try a seal. I did one a few months back and I don't plan to do another. took me 5 hours to skin, then another 3 days of scraping to remove all the blubber.

I agree, as far as stink domestic cat is the worst smelling thing in the world. I have to smoke a cigar just to get through it...lol
