I had two Coyotes brought in that are for lifesize mounts. Both are infested with lice. One is caked with globs of lice.
Kept them outside my shop and skinned them out , sealed them up and put them in deepfreeze.
Any suggestions on killing the lice so I can finish fleshing and salting without contanminating everything else along with shipping to the tannery.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  2. If they live through the deep freeze, then we have something to be worried about

Use Sevin-5, available at wal-mart in gardening. Sprinkle all over fur, place in plastic bag, and put in the freezer for a day or 2. The stuff works on ticks and mites, and it should work on lice.

    Otherwise, get a lice spray.

Just freezing will probably kill the adults, but not the eggs.

I call and shoot a lot of coyotes and fox and found the best way to kill the fleas is I put them into a plastic garbage bag, spray raid into the bag and seal over night , there all pretty much dead and you wont get any of the little buggers on you when you skin them, I found that just freezing them here in the north its very cold that the fleas will still be alive after a couple weeks frozen, If you do get any on you while skinning, I have a shower right after skinning and they do not like soap and water, if you do not the little buggers will live on you for a few days and they bite!
