There seemed to be some interest in this from a lot of guys, so we finally got a date set...June 4th, 5th, and 6th. This is a Friday through sunday seminar. I would call it rdaathon, but Bill would get pissed..If anyone wants to bring their birds to a higher level, this is it. This is going to be more of an advanced seminar, so some knowledge of bird mounting would be helpful. Ron will cover Anatomy, wrapping and carving bodies, useing pre-made bodies, and using artificial heads, along with useing real heads. Day one would cover the anatomy, and wrapping and carving. Day 2 will be mounting an upland bird of your choice. Day 3 will be mounting a waterfowl bird of your choice. You would be required to bring your birds already skinned out...Prepped and ready to mount would be even better. You also would need to bring the frozen body from each bird for reference. All foam, excelsior, and other supplies will be supplied. You will also need to bring your favorite hand tools you use all the time when mounting. The cost of the seminar will be $750.00. I think he is being very reasonable with this. We will limit this to 5 guys, so were not to crowded in here. A 50% deposit will be required to reserve your spot. You can send a check, or for your convenience, i will take a credit card for this. There are a couple nice hotels within 20 minutes of the shop, or if you want to save some money, your more than welcome to bring a air mattress and sleeping bag, and just stay here. There are a few restaurants and bars within a few blocks for meals...I'm sure if we twist his arm a bit, we could probably get him to show us a lot of his other tricks also..If you have any questions, you can pm me, or call me at the shop at 815-728-7097. I should probably add this is going to be held at my shop in Wonder Lake, Illinois. I'm located about an hour and a half northwest of Chicago, right by the Wisconsin border.

if your close, I do give seminars at my shop.... ;)

As for the "bird-dealio",,, at Scottys,,,, this will be the whole bag of tricks....You will learn a system of mounting that has simplified the process to where even a "cave man" can do it!!!! ;D Every trick ive pulled in shows,,finish techniques, carving wrapping commercial mannikins real artificial and combo heads, half head techinques,,sculpting and texturing,,,eye rings nic membranes,,,posing and grooming techniques,,, basically the hole enchilada! The number of birds done can vary with your speed as well! And I fully expect to have my briain picked at will and will endevour to answer ;) :D

My system for mounting will suprise you as to the simplicity and economics as well!!! Youll learn how to groom with fifty pounds of air!! How to have fully adjustable eyes after the mount dries to get that perfect pupil symetry! Youll learn four different head techniques to over come any head issues! competition finish techniques! washes and powder applications! We will also cover composition for pieces a well........And hey if we sweet talk Scotty, maybe he will take us to his secret hole at the lake to catch a mess o blugill for a fry!!! ;)

RDA, put a post up here when you get a seminar together at your shop. I'm very interested. I've done a few birds but would like to see and learn first hand how the Pro's do it. I'm just up the road in Susanville.

    Thanks
    Damon

    Ron
I thought the grooming with 50lbs of air was common knowledge! I have been using air for about 80% of the grooming process. Heads almost 100% probably the most used tool in my studio next to super glue.
I am sure most will learn tons!

Ronathon it is then..lol Sounds like we have 2 so far. Three more would be great. This is a great chance to really bring your bird work up to a new level..Maybe i'll have to get some celebrity guests to show up....

  12. Re: RDA's bird mounting seminar now set.....

Im interested if there will be only be five people plus Ron. No "celebs/"helpers".

"Ronathon" just sounds wrong, but it would be a great chance to learn several very important tips. I wish I could make it. I'll get out to Nevada some day Ron. I need a lot of help with upland birds. You da man! You guys are going to need to post up pictures of the weekend anyway. Should be great for all involved.
