I've been in the situation of the landowner having a monster taken by tresspassers. We could not get the rack back. Made me sick as that person didn't deserve it after driving our property to kick it out, gutting it on ours, and then driving around town and bragging about how they did it. They did get hefty trespassing fines, but it would have taken a lengthy legal battle to get the antlers back, and no guarantee we would win. Still p*sses me off to this day. The guy also had the guts to call up and beg to have the charges dropped. No way. Many years ago we found a monster left for dead on ours with bullet holes in him. It was archery season. At that time, it was very rare to see a buck that big in our area, and people stopped by just to see the rack. I have another 11pt found dead on ours with gunshot wounds. So yeah, poachers and tresspassers suck. It's amazing what people will do for a big rack. It hurts to see these beautiful animals treated like dirt by scumbags. If the story is true, and the shooter did not have permission to gunt there, then I say he deserves whatever he gets and there better be one big * next to that entry in the record book. Doesn't matter if the landowner is out for money or not. If it was illegal, then the poacher deserves the guilt.

that is a very nice buck.....unfortuanatly the theories of how these bucks are taken goes with the territory. I had a guy bring a 180 class to me......i live in NY mind you.....and naturally i cut the skull plate for ashoulder mount. all hell broke loose after that....rumors upon rumors about cuttting the antlers off and such. then rumors as it was a purchased rack......rediculous. in the case with the add on hunter so to say.....the guy the had permission should should also be held accountable....none of here knows what he told his friend and maybe the friend thought it was ok. big mess for sure though

  4. In Iowa the state owns all the deer . I would guess if it turns out to be illegal the state will end up with the antlers .
I also think it is laughable that a landowner thinks he owns a deer on his property .

  5. boone and crocketts web site says it has been pannel scored at 284 with 134 3/8 of abnormal. The del austin buck is the currett state record at 277 3/8. Looks to be a winner reguardless.
