Hi I am getting ready to start my first shoulder mount. I have a couple of questions. My first is how long can you keep a head in the freezer? The reason is my dad has a deer in the freezer that has been there from last year. Should I put it in a refrigerator to thaw it out slowly? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks Scott

  2. Just pull it out...... and as it thaws, unroll and just keep working it open...........and hope for the best for freeze dried ear tips and lips!! No need to slow up the thawing process by using a refrigerator!!

I pulled one out of the freezer that has been there for two years and had no problems except the freeze dried ear tips, just rehydrate and keep on keeping on.,

I took care of freeze dried paws, tail, ears, and muzzle on a jaguar by injecting a concentrated saline solution I mixed up and massaging the areas. Over a few hours they did soften up enough to get the hide off, and it turned out those were the only areas that didn't slip!

I did a deer once that had been in the freezer for 5 years. And worked on a turkey the last couple days that has been in the freezer since spring of 2002.
